Layout Update & Plans for the Future
Big changes for the channel over the next year or so. I've got a lot of work to do but I'm excited for the future.

Trains Running 2023
Просмотров 46 тыс.6 месяцев назад
As the year draws to a close I thought it would be a good idea to film a running session on the layout. It's been ages since the last one and a lot has changed since then. I wish you all the best for 2024 and I'm looking forward to the various projects I have planned for the new year. Cheers
New Layout Build - Completing the station
Просмотров 66 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Continuing from the previous video I turn my attention to the far end of the station platforms. I'm quite pleased with how this side has turned out. The station area is looking quite close to completion. As always there are additional details that can be added. Nothing is ever entirely finished and I'm sure I'll be back to this area in future.
New Layout Build - Station Detail
Просмотров 60 тыс.8 месяцев назад
I've been planning what to do with the station platforms for a while now. In this video I make the first chunk of progress towards making the station more detailed. There is of course more work to do and I'll be back with a part 2 focusing towards the far end of the station.
Layout Tour 2023
Просмотров 148 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I've had a number of requests to do a complete tour of the layout again as many parts of it have changed significantly since the previous tour in 2021. I've done my best to go over just about everything I can think of in detail. I hope this updated tour will bring you up to speed with the current state of the layout.
Layout Update - Autumn 2023
Просмотров 57 тыс.9 месяцев назад
During summer the layout of course took a back seat as it usually does. However I have been continuing to make progress on various sections of the layout. In this video I'll run through all of those small jobs as well as a small update with regards to changes & additions to the rolling stock.
New Layout Build - Scrap Yard Improvements
Просмотров 89 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Since I originally built the scrap yard a number of details to enhance it have become available. In this video I set to dismantling some of the scrap yard. I then make various changes and improvements with plenty of paint and details added along the way.
New Layout Build - Street Scene Detail
Просмотров 79 тыс.11 месяцев назад
I've been busy working on several buildings for the street scene in the corner of the layout. They've taken a long time to put together but in this video I get several buildings closer to completion and construct a new one. I also found some time to add some much needed small details to the general scenery in the surrounding area.
New Layout Build - Detailing & lighting the big block of flats
Просмотров 52 тыс.Год назад
A job I've looking forward to was adding some much needed lights and details to the block of flats I built a few years ago. While there is still more to add I think the building is looking quite a bit more interesting now. Here's the video on the initial construction of the flats ruclips.net/video/0DiKVV3YU2Y/видео.html Here's a link to the pre wired LEDs I use for my buildings www.ebay.co.uk/i...
Layout Update - Spring 2023 | backscenes, footbridge, weathering, and new additions
Просмотров 92 тыс.Год назад
I took a break from the layout over the past two months or so. I've taken several breaks from the layout over the years to ensure I don't get bored or burnt out. Despite this I have managed to make enough progress over the past few weeks to put together an update video.
New Layout Build - Station Street
Просмотров 152 тыс.Год назад
Well after quite a bit of work I've managed to get the next section of scenery going for the station side of the layout. There is of course plenty of small details left to add here but overall I'm very happy with the progress so far. I'll be taking a break from this section for a while and continue to focus on the station itself. Cheers
Modifiying, Improving & Painting - New Dapol Class 59
Просмотров 57 тыс.Год назад
Recently I've added a model of the class 59 to the layout. The new model from Dapol is impressive and I'm pleased to have a newly tooled example of the 59 for the layout. The model benefits from a number of fixes and improvements if you're prepared to invest a bit of time and get the tools out. In this video I go through the various changes I've made to my model step by step. Big thanks to Line...
Removing Paint & Weathering from Models
Просмотров 34 тыс.Год назад
After purchasing some poorly weathered wagons from eBay I set about removing the weathering from them. It's a simple process and opens the door for saving various modelling projects. These locos and wagons can often sell for low prices due to the weathering they have. However with a bit of work these models can be saved quite easily.
Layout Update Winter 2022 | lighting, scenic improvements, vehicles and weathering
Просмотров 66 тыс.Год назад
I've been busy working on several projects over the past few months. I've also continued to add detail and scenery to the car park scene I built in the previous video. Some new locos have also arrived on the layout in the last 3 months with additional weathering projects getting closer to completion. You can get all the details regarding the Dean Park Christmas Competition here... ruclips.net/v...
New Layout Build - Station Car Park
Просмотров 84 тыс.Год назад
Focus for this video is to make some progress on the surrounding scenery in the station area. The two large background buildings have been crying out for some scenery to compliment them. I've managed a decent bit of progress on the car park and will continue to work on the station area over the next few videos.

Saw this years ago and it inspired me to think repainting needn't be that hard. Got a compressor, airbrush, also a desktop spray booth... just getting my act together to start spraying paint around!

in my utopian alternate timeline, none of the 1Co-Co1 classes were built. instead of the Standard steam locos and the Modernisation Plan, the BTC order two hundred production versions of the Ivatt diesels (LMS 10000/10001) as a interim universal loco, running singly or in pairs while building up operating experience. by the 70s, secondary expresses are hauled by pairs of Ivatt diesels nearing their end of life. I still want to make a model of a rail blue worn-out production Ivatt diesel...

I have the same spray booth. Used it for the first time today, to prime some models with Halfords grey primer from a rattlecan, and it is immediately filthy with overspray

I have used a similar way but I use just three wires to the motor as I'm just starting out and won't to get it all going so I have the + and - going to the point motor and then the frog wire and it seems to work I need to switch it by hand but it's working and it allows me to upgrade it in my own time

Starting out again on the hobby after 50 years and catching up with all your old videos as I'm learning so much. In awe at your skills with scenery and especially with weathering! It's making me realise what a long time it's going to take me to learn how to do the sort of weathering in this video , in fact I probably never will - you make it look easy!

As you like Network South East Richard, it was launched on the 10th of June 1986 and the western region painted two class 50's in the new network colours. The two being 50023 Howe and 50017 Royal Oak. A third 50 soon joined them being 50035 Ark Royal. Chris Green was the man responsible for implementing Network South East after he'd done something similar with Scotrail. One of his masters strokes was the liberal use of red paint to brighten up dowdy stations and Network South East extended to Exeter. Even a class 86 was painted in Network South East livery being 86401 but spent all of it's time in the north west. The western region also painted a rake of seven Mark 1 coaches for the launch. Now how the hell would an Aussie living on the other side of the world know all that without even looking at the internet. Simple because in the days before the internet there was a company called Railscene Ltd (now long defunct) and those VHS tapes were available down under but only until 1991. The very first tape in 1984 showed the new DMU's the Sprinters of classes 150. In Railscene tape No.6 they showed the delivery of Foster Yeoman's class 59's off loaded from the ship in fowl weather at Newport Docks. In Railscene tape No. 25 they showed the first class 59's bought by ARC and wondered if it was the end for British locomotive builders as the first loco was in ARC service eighteen days after being unloaded on the dock. This was a marked contrast to the protracted drawn out delivery of the Brush class 60's which took months to get into service with seemingly never ending teething troubles. A Foster Yeoman class 59 attended a diesel gala on the SVR with Foster Yeoman telling the SVR their engine could haul 105 Mark 1 coaches with ease. The video tapes were in a magazine format with various topics covered from mainline steam to preserved steam and diesel to up to date BR traction to spotlighting various aspects and areas of BR and private industry. In those days preserved steam was allowed on the mainline but preserved diesels were banned. They could run on the mainline but only at idle with a BR diesel hauling them. Deltics attended BR open days but never under their own power. Those were the days when 9F Evening Star ran mainline tours and there didn't seem to be any problem. At one stage her boiler ticket had expired but was extended and then extended again to run more tours on the mainline. So why now are 9F's banned from the mainline when in the 80's and 90's there were no problems. Odd to think now that the 9F's were built to last into the 1980's and 90's probably by then as oil burners.

But my new place isn't a fixer-upper, and I'm retired which you are not, so here's something you won't want to hear: I've not stopped with the job list, both small and large jobs, since we moved in! Best wishes with the project, and we'll all wait with interest for your next video.

Very helpful…what Matt varnish do you use - when you feel that helps protect? I’m a relative beginner but starting to weather my On30 Narrow Gauge locos using Vallejo acrylics and Tamiya Matt paints so I need a varnish that will not cause any issues. TIA

Hi Richard. Congratulations on the new house and good luck with the renovation and the building of the new layout. Will the new layout have a new name? I appreciate that the channel and the existing layout have the same name, but at least one other YTer has renamed his channel. Sorry to hear about the job, but it seems to be resolving itself at least for the moment.

Well done getting your own place. Another blank canvas for you. Here's a thought for the future. WiFi cameras are so small nowadays, as you build your layout install cameras around the layout and in buildings etc. So in the future you could use these static cameras as well as you moving ones too. Just a thought, looking forward to seeing the new layout being built.

So you started off this video saying you don't have point motors in that particular point you focused on. But you can run a train across the point without a point motor? Only with insulated rail joiners?... Don't you need at least a polarity switch of some sort? Also where does the first 0v go to? And you also need 12v power as well as your DCC power??

In the meantime if you have any downtime, I for one would welcome a video on how you go about designing a building on Cricut Design Space software ready for cutting out on the Cricut machine. Your video on building a circuit board to operate your signals was excellent. It got me into model rail electronics.

Very impressive job, incredible as a first timer!!! Bought back alot of memories of the time my dad had a series of these as company cars. First was a Consul 2.5 estate, GL spec in an orangy bronze metallic. Seemed huge at the time, big enough to squeeze my Yamaha DT125 trail bike in on it's side to take it to the dealer when it wouldn't start one Saturday morning!!! Next was a funky metallic purple Granada 2.5 GL, used to take me hours to clean because of all the chrome!! Next and last was a Mk3 (?) Granada 2.8 GL in Jupiter Red metallic. That was an auto, I think the previous 2 were manual but I can't be sure. Generously my dad let me use all three, so I put some reasonable miles on all of them. My favourite was the purple Granada, that dropped some knickers in it's time!! The Consul was just huge, there was nothing like it at the time, some even thought it was American! My mum and dad towed their caravan to Italy several times in it and it just soaked it up without any complaint. Well done on your restoration, it is really impressive.

A great how to video 11 years ago and a few things have change technology wise with the wheels and circuits and LED's but it is still the basics. I've looked through your comments and no one has noticed that your diagram for the bridge rectifier is wrong.. I am very surprised that no one has noticed this....I was taught electronics when I was in school back in the 80's and this seemed wrong in my head and after I checked some of my technical books to find I was correct..... You have 2 of the diodes facing the wrong way.. the top right one and the bottom left one should be facing the other way. The point of the arrow shows the flow of the current and in your picture the top AC current input cannot pass as it is facing the stop part of the diodes and the bottom AC input can flow to both the positive and negative at the same time which is wrong.
